Silence, 2005, oil on canvas, 36″x31″ by Jordon Schranz

The exciting group exhibition, “The Sheltering Sky” opens today at the Black and White Gallery in Chelsea.

Presenting emerging artists working in a variety of mediums: photography, painting, video and installation. At the core of the exhibition: investigating the everyday life disconnect between the external environment and our thoughts, dreams, attitudes and feelings. The exhibition title, The Sheltering Sky appropriates a title of the cult classic book by Paul Bowles, a complex tale from which while one emerges as if from a dream, a little reflection makes it clear that our dreams can so easily become our nightmares.

This year marks the taxi cab’s 100th Anniversary. To celebrate the joyous occasion, the Design Trust for Public Space asked the city’s top designers to do some “creative-reinventive” thinking about the taxi. The results will be exhibited at the Auto Show in April.

Can’t wait till Spring? Not to worry. This Thursday, at 6:30pm, Cooper-Hewitt will be hosting “Transforming an Icon,” a panel discussion focusing on how some of the these designers met the challenge. ($10 to get in).

Our friends at Core77 recently posted a great product review of sorts…

iProduct is yet another iSpoof on our iObsessed society. Humorous, yet true…we should all be ashamed of ourselves! But let’s get real here. We’ll eventually get over it and buy that iStuff when it’s on sale or when something better has come out.
